THE TRUE BEAUTY –By Thomas Carew

 He that loves a rosy cheek

Or a coral lip admires,

Or from star-like eyes doth seek

Fuel to maintain his fires;

As old time makes these decay,

So his flames must waste away. 

वह व्यक्ति जो अपनी प्रेमिका के गुलाबी गालों को प्रेम करता है या  मूंगे जैसे लाल

होंठों की प्रशंसा करता है या  सितारों जैसी चमकदार आँखों में अपने प्रेम की अग्नि को प्रज्ज्वलित रखने के लिए ईंधन की तलाश करता है ,  जैसे कि समय (वृद्धावस्था)  के साथ ये चीज़ें नष्ट हो जाएंगी, इस प्रकार उसकी प्रेमाग्नि अवश्य ही समाप्त हो जायेगी।

But a smoothe and steadfast mind,

Gentle thought, and calm desires,

Hearts with equal love combined,

Kindle never dying fires,

Where these are not, I despise

Lovely cheeks or lips or eyes.

लेकिन एक - सा रहने वाला तथा दृढ़ मस्तिष्क , सुन्दर विचार और शान्त इच्छाएँ तथा समान प्रेम से जुड़े हृदय चिरस्थायी प्रेमाग्नि को प्रज्ज्वलित रखते हैं । जहाँ पर ये वस्तुएँ नहीं होतीं वहाँ मैं सुन्दर गालों , ओठों अथवा आँखों को घृणा करता हूँ ।

CENTREAL IDEA THE POEM

In this poem the poet admires the beauty of mind and soul and hates physical beauty without virtues . The physical beauty - rosy cheeks , coral lips , star - like eyes decay according to time. As a result the lover ' s feelings for his beloved decreases . while love based on gentleness and purity of mind and soul is everlasting .
