राजा आर्थर ने नाव से धीरे - से Bedivere को उत्तर दिया , " पुरानी प्रणाली बदलती है तथा उसके स्थान पर नई प्रणाली आती है । ईश्वर अपनी इच्छाओं को अनेक विधियों से पूरा करता है क्योंकि
कहीं ऐसा न हो कि एक अच्छी प्रथा संसार को भ्रष्ट दे ।
Comfort thyself: what comfort is in me?
I have lived my life, and that which I have done
May He within Himself make pure! but thou,
If thou shouldst never see my face again,
Pray for my soul. More things are wrought by prayer
Than this world dreams of. Wherefore, let thy voice
Rise like a fountain for me night and day.
राजा आर्थर ने Bedivere से आगे कहा , " तम अपने अन्दर धैर्य रखो । मेरे अंदर क्या धैर्य बचा है ? मैंने तो अपना जीवन व्यतीत कर लिया है । जो कुछ मैंने किया है ईश्वर उसे स्वीकार करेगा तथा त्रुटि के लिए उसे क्षमा करेगा । यदि तुम मुझे फिर न देख सको अर्थात् यदि मेरी मृत्यु हो जाये तो तुम मेरी आत्मा की शान्ति के लिए भगवान से प्रार्थना करना । " राजा आर्थर ने योद्धा Bedivere से कहा , " संसार के व्यक्ति सोच भी नहीं सकते , प्रार्थना के द्वारा उससे अधिक कार्य हो सकते हैं । जिस प्रकार एक फव्वारे से पानी के छींटे निकल कर । उत्तरोत्तर ऊपर जाते हैं उसी प्रकार तुम्हें अपनी आवाज द्वारा दिन - रात मेरे लिए प्रार्थना करते रहना चाहिए ।
For what are men better than sheep or goats
That nourish a blind life within the brain,
If, knowing God, they lift not hands of prayer
Both for themselves and those who call them friend ?
For so the whole round earth is in every way
Bound by gold chains about the feet of God,
But now farewell.
राजा आर्थर ने प्रार्थना की महान शक्ति के बारे में बताते हुए कहा , " वे मनुष्य भेड़ या बकरियों से बढ़कर नहीं हैं जो मस्तिष्क प्राप्त कर आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से अन्धा अर्थात् ज्ञानरहित जीवन बिताते हैं । ईश्वर को जानकर भी वे स्वयं के लिए तथा उनके लिए जिन्हें मित्र कहते हैं , हाथ उठाकर प्रार्थना नहीं करते हैं । प्रार्थना एक कड़ी है जो सोने की जंजीर की सहायता से इस विश्व को ईश्वर के चरणों में बाँधती
CENTRAL IDEA OF THE POEM
The poet says that time rolls on and with this the old social orders change and new order take their place . A good system , if it lingers in too long time , loses its utility and brings in corruption . so the poet tells about the importance of prayer . Men are not better than animals if they do not pray to God . Prayer is the link between God and the world that's why we shoudl pray.
