Where the mind is
without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
कवि कहता है कि हे
ईश्वर मेरे स्वप्नों का भारत इस प्रकार का हो - जहाँ लोगों का मन डर से मुक्त हों और सिर सम्मान से ऊँचा रहे जहां पर
ज्ञान पर कोई प्रतिबन्ध न हो (अर्थात हर वर्ग के लोग शिक्षा प्राप्त
कर सकें)
जहाँ संसार ( मानव समाज ) जाति , धर्म
तथा भाषा के आधार पर छोटे छोटे घरेलू मन
मुटाव के कारण भिन्न
- भिन्न वर्गों में न बँटा हो ; जहाँ शब्द सत्य की गहराई से निकलते हों
अर्थात् लोग सत्य बोलते हों
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards
perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by Thee into ever-widening
thought and action –
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake
जहाँ पर पूर्णता
की प्राप्ति के लिए अथक प्रयास किये
जाते हों ,
जहाँ लोग तर्क
की स्वच्छ धारा को छोड़ कर पुरानी आदतों के नीरस मरुस्थल की बालू में न खो गये हों
अर्थात् जहाँ तर्क के आधार पर नवीन विचारों को स्वीकार करने मे पुराने रीति – रिवाज बाधा न डालें (अर्थात लोग तर्क के आधार पर फैसला करें ।)
जहाँ मस्तिष्क ईश्वर के वरदहस्त ( प्रेरणा ) से
सदैव विकसित विचार तथा कार्य की ओर अग्रसर होता हो ;
(हे पिता ईश्वर मेरे देश को इस प्रकार का
स्वतन्त्रता रूपी वरदान प्राप्त हो अर्थात् मेरा देश इस प्रकार की स्वतन्त्रता प्राप्त करे ।)
CENTRAL IDEA OF THE POEM
In this poem Rabindranath Tagore imagines how India would be in future. There the people's minds would be free from fear and narrow mindedness. They would have no distinction of caste, race or language. They would not be conservative. They would share knowledge freely and use their reason in thinking and bringing there thoughts into practice. They would follow the path of truth under the guidance of God. Thus his country will be heaven earth.
